Our Franklin School Improvement Team would like you to know what progress has been made according to your comments on the 2010-11 parent surveys both from the internet surveys and the parent teacher conference surveys.
1. You requested more book titles for our Accelerated Reader Program: We have purchased the AR Titles on line in
which your child has access.
2. More physical education and wellness programs for your children: Our students participate in physical
education. Mrs. Anderson also offers the mileage club during noon recess. The Mileage and Wellness
assembly takes place once a month.
3. Request for more technology: We have a stationary lab with 32 computers and a C.O.W. (computer on wheels)
which holds 32 laptops and can be used in grades 1st through 4th. Our third and fourth grade teachers have
smart boards which they have implemented throughout their daily lessons.
4. We have added two new playground equipment pieces to our Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten end.
5. Request to add a safe dismissal program: We began working on a Safe Routes to School Grant which involves
MDOT, the City of Cadillac, Health Department, CAPS Supervisor of Maintenance, Franklin staff and parents.
We also received a Walk to School Bus grant which focuses on the students safety being assisted and
unassisted as walkers. The purpose of these grants are to provide a safe environment for all students walking
to and from Franklin, bus and self transportation pick up and departure.
6. Recognition of our students for their positive social characteristics takes place monthly during our Gold
Award Assembly. The students are recognized in various ways.
As the Franklin School Improvement Team and staff, we appreciate your comments and look forward to working with you in providing Franklin students a safe, healthy and educational enriched environment.
Franklin School Improvement Team
Franklin School is committed to assuring that all children are being released safely and exactly the way you have chosen. These choices are:
- Walking either unassisted to a specific location or waiting in the gym for parent pick-up.
- Car Rider
- Cadillac Area Public School Bus Rider
Once your child has been released from their classroom, they will not be allowed to do anything other than one of the choices above.
Checking any student out through the school office or picking them up in the lobby is NOT an option once dismissal has begun.
If picking up your child for an appointment, you MUST sign your child out prior to 3:15 p.m. to aid in a smooth dismissal.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
We, the Franklin Staff, would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate your child. Working together with you will help your child develop their strengths and have a successful year. PARENTSFranklin School has had a new dismissal program since October 17th for our car riders, and will be initiating our plan for our walking students on November 7th. These are proven plans of action that have been implemented at many fine school systems across the country. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Jessica Johnston introduce and implement this system for Franklin School. Mrs. Johnston has a Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University in Hospitality Administration and has been instrumental in training both our students and staff members to make sure we are doing everything possible to keep our students safe at dismissal time.
These programs are available to us through grant funding through the State of Michigan for Safe Routes to Schools. We are honored to have a representative from the Safe Routes to Schools Program visit our school and watch it in action on November 9th.
We thank YOU the parents for embracing these new procedures and working with us to assure that ALL students are accounted for. We have had wonderful feedback since these steps were put into place, and we take pride in what we can accomplish together!
